Below are some of Rebirth's frequently asked questions. More than likely, additions will be made to this list in the future. All of these questions are answered by Rebirth's Headmaster/Webmaster, Joseph Witchard.
Q: What is an RPG?
A: RPG is short for Role Playing Game. On many online RPGs, you create your own character and interact with other characters in the fictional world that you role play in. Rebirth is a Hogwarts RPG, meaning that our members role play in a Hogwarts setting, based off of the Harry Potter books.
Q: Is Ultimate Hogwarts a Harry Potter RPG?
A: I'm not 100% sure. If you want to call it that, I'm not going to stop you. However, the way I look at it, a Harry Potter RPG is an RPG that focuses around the characters of J.K. Rowling's wonderful books. A Hogwarts RPG, on the other hand, is an RPG that takes Hogwarts and the Wizarding World idea and focuses those two stories around the characters created by the RPG's role players. That's my take on it, anyway ;)
Q: How does the role playing take place?
A: Good question. When people think of a Role Playing Game, it can mean different things. Pokemon, for the Nintendo Gameboy and Nintendo DS, for example, is a RPG Game. That's not Rebirth, though; we are most certainly not a video game. Rather, Rebirth is what is called a forum based RPG, meaning that you write role plays on an online forum/message board.
Q: Okay, so how do I get started?
A: The first thing to do at any RPG is to read the rules. At Rebirth, you agree to our Rule and Terms of Service when you join the RPG. Failure to abide by these rules can result in banishment from Rebirth. Once you have read the rules, you can read our plot to understand what is currently happening at Rebirth. When you're ready to join, please visit our RPG Forum to begin getting your character application approved.
Q: Great! May I play a character from the books, like Hermione or Ron?
A: No. Those characters don't exist at our version of Hogwarts. We're writing about Hogwarts, but we've created a a world that's entirely different from that found in the Harry Potter series. The only characters from the books that are allowed are characters that HAVE to exist. For example, there would be no Ollivander's Wands without Mr. Ollivander.
Q: How do I become a prefect?
A: Well, first off, your character must be in their fifth-year or above. Second, we like to see active role players who have exceptional talent for role playing take the prefect position. But you should always remember that the prefect position is mainly for bragging rights; it comes with a couple of more privlileges than a normal student has, but it's nothing glamorous.
Q: How do I become a Moderator?
A: First, DON'T ASK US TO MAKE YOU A MODERATOR. WE WILL ASK YOU. Second, see the prefect question above. We look for the same qualities in our Moderators that we do in our prefects. Also, we look for members who have clean records; if you've broken a lot of our rules, you probably won't be getting any Moderator requests
Q: How do I become an Administrator?
A: Again, DON'T ASK US. And, of course, it helps if you're a Moderator first.
Q: OOC, IC, and BIC. What are these?
A: Those are acronyms for role playing terms. OOC means Out Of Character, which is you talking as yourself, not as your character. IC (In Character) and BIC (Back In Character) are more or less the same, and will most likely be used immediately after a member has made an OOC comment in a role play post.
Q: I saw a post that violates one of the rules. What should I do?
A: Report it. There will be a button on each and every post (looks sort of like a sign you would see on the highway) that you can click to report the post, should it violate any of our rules. Please note that only forum members can report a post.
Q: What staff positions are open?
A: The Open Positions thread is located in the Staff and Non-Students Applications forum. It lists all of our open staff positions.
Q: How do I earn House Points?
A: Attending class; doing well in class; helping out new members; good role playing, etc. Things like these are a surefire way to earn points for your House.
Q: I still have some questions that need to be answered before I join. What should I do?
A: Contact the staff via our feedback form.
